Falcons Bolster Defense in Free Agency

The Atlanta Falcons have made a flurry of moves this offseason to upgrade their defense. The team signed free agent edge rushers Leonard Floyd and Morgan Fox to boost their pass rush. Floyd, a former first-round pick, had a career-high 10.5 sacks with the Rams in 2020. Fox is a high-motor player who notched a career-best 6 sacks last season. Atlanta also added depth in the secondary by signing safety Divine Deablo and cornerback Keith Taylor. Deablo, a third-round pick in 2021, showed promise as a rookie with the Raiders. Taylor was a sixth-round selection by the Panthers last year who saw limited action.

On the offensive side, the Falcons lost promising young center Drew Dalman in free agency to the Chicago Bears. The 2022 fourth-round pick started 9 games as a rookie and played well, but Atlanta let him walk to an NFC foe.

Looking ahead to the draft, the Falcons are likely to prioritize edge rushers early to further bolster their pass rush. With veteran Grady Jarrett also leaving for Chicago, Atlanta is hoping the additions of Floyd, Fox and potential rookies will elevate a defense that ranked 25th in sacks last season.
